The Many Faces of Santa

Reactions:
Yesterday was Bryson's first school play. OK it wasn't really a play, but more a presentation with cute costumes and teachers whispering lines in their ears. Bryson was so excited when he found out about his part because he was going to get to play the big man himself, Santa Claus. When he came home from school that day he went through an elaborate guessing game for Brian to determine who he was going to be.

Bryson: " I'm going to be someone with a red coat, red pants, presents and (dramatic pause) a SLEIGH!"

So yesterday morning when he woke up I said, "Today is the day you get to be Santa on stage! Aren't you so excited? "To which he responded, "No I don't want to be Santa on stage!" The rest of the morning consisted of me guilting, persuading, and pressuring him about why he should be Santa. By the time we got out the door I was sure if I would have to throw him on stage as a screaming Santa.

So we walk into school, and low and behold that sweet boy turned to me, as we walked down the hall, and said, " I changed my mind, I'm going to be Santa." Oh the joy! Now I'm not sure if it was my warm encouragement about how special he is, or the threat to take away Christmas, but whatever it was worked. I think he was the best damn Santa that pre-school has ever seen.

And now the many faces of Santa:
